SEASON OF LOVE.

During a memorial service for a young woman, who

was a wife, a mother and with a successful career

and who died way too young, several of her friends,

one at a time, came forward, and delivered

heartfelt and passionate reflections on her life. They

said she loved life, they said she loved her husband;

they said she loved her children and loved her job.

They said she loved her garden and her friends and

her church.

One of the friends, however, departed from this

norm. She came to the lectern and said, 525,600

minutes so dear. 525,600 minutes, how do you

measure, measure a year? In daylights, in sunsets, in

inches, in miles or in cups of coffee? How about

love? These words are from the Broadway musical

and motion picture, Rent that came out in 2005.

We are in Lenten season. Traditionally, Lent has

been a time for penitence, confession,

repentance, and to some it is time to give away

something that, in most cases, we could live

without any way.

I suggest, however that this year, this Lent be a

slightly different. I suggest that we ponder on

the gift of love- I suggest that we ponder on

God’s love and the love of God’s love that

awakens in human hearts.
